10 Ways I Won’t be Preparing for Back to School This Fall

1 – New Clothes

I won’t be buying an entirely new wardrobe for every child. I suppose they will get a few new items and of course, new shoes. Their boy feet just keep growing and growing with no sign of stopping soon.

2 – Back to School Signs

I won’t be making adorable Pinterest-perfect first day of school signs. There is a reasonable chance I will make the kids write their own sign, but it’s entirely possible that won’t happen either.

3 – Back to School Outfits

I won’t remember to pull their first day of school outfits out and neatly place them in piles on the couch, but the boys will. I will be lucky if there are enough clean clothes for everyone on the first day of school. If they are feeling extra excited, they’ll get their own outfits out, right?

4 – Cold Lunch

I probably won’t have cold lunch packed for everyone, even though one of them asked in April of last school year if they could take cold lunch in the 2019 school year. This kid really plans ahead. I will subsequently wish I was not a hot mess…

5 – School Supplies

I won’t have their school supplies pulled together weeks in advance and neatly organized in new backpacks. I will try to get them their supplies by at least the weekend night before school, and it probably won’t be pretty trying to figure out if everyone has everything.

6 – Fun First Morning

I won’t have a carefree first morning of getting ready for school where everyone is in the car early and everything goes off without a hitch. I will have a morning that likely includes a lot of noise, frustration, and beads of sweat.

7 – Freedom and Coffee

I’m supposed to be horrified, but deep down, I’m impressed.

I definitely won’t be moping around the house wondering what to do with four fewer boys running around tormenting each other and destroying my house. I will enjoy at least two cups of hot coffee and a snuggle with my two youngest children.

8 – My Preschooler

I won’t cry when my fourth baby goes to his first day of school. Who am I kidding, I will.

9 – Wonder How They Are Doing

I won’t wonder how their first day back is going, I will wonder constantly how their first day is going, and won’t be able to go get them soon enough.

10 – Celebrating a New Start

I won’t be a bit sad to go pick them up and hear all the excitement of starting a new school year fill our home. I will take them out for ice cream to celebrate the beginning of another year of learning and growing.

What won’t you be doing to prepare for the school year?

Such a cute post and so realistic. As long as they have clothes on the first day!! Haha also, I’m assuming the cold lunch is our equivalent of a sack lunch? He needs a cold lunch since he gave you months to plan. Haha hope they have a great first day!

  2. Jen says:

Jacob is going to preschool…how is that even possible?!?!

  3. Traci says:

My oldest has been begging to take grilled cheese as a cold lunch for her first day of 4K for literally over a year. I keep telling her it’s not going to be warm by the time she eats it… But I’ll probably be flipping a grilled cheese sandwich that morning!
