Let the interviews with humorists begin!

As a fun new series on my blog, I’ve reached out to some pretty fantastic (read: FUNNY) parenting bloggers and they’ve allowed me to interview them! How incredible is that?!

Today on Up Close and Hilariously Personal with a Parenting Blogger we are getting The Honest Truth from Brittney @ The Honest Mom

Let’s get right into our Q and A interview!

Ok Brittney, please describe your journey to becoming a hilarious mom blogger.

It actually all started after being diagnosed with postpartum depression. I was in a terrible place mentally, and just decided one day that I needed to pull myself out. From there I started finding the humor in the disgusting and real parts of Motherhood that people don’t always want to talk about (even though we all experience it!!) I definitely think my humor is more biting and sarcastic. Some people might not get me or find me funny, but the Mamas that do are my people!

Are there bloggers in particular from whom you draw inspiration?

I am obsessed with Scary Mommy!! They shed light on the parts of Motherhood that people don’t always talk about and that is right up my alley!

If you could eat just one vegetable for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Oh jeez…Veggies… I am a horrible example to my child in the fact that I am not a big veggie fan… Can I choose veggie chips? Totally counts right??

What is the most rewarding part of blogging?

I love being able to have an outlet to vent. My husband would never listen to my endless complaining about mean girl moms and how annoying my kid can be…But, in all honesty, I love that I’m documenting my motherhood journey, and hopefully, my child can look at it one day and laugh.

What kind of moms need to be reading your stuff, and why?

Moms that live on wine and goldfish need to read my blog. The Moms that are realists and know that Motherhood isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it’s poop explosions and temper tantrums. Those Moms are my soul sisters. I honestly believe that any Mom can relate to my blog. It is real life. We all need to stick together, because sometimes if you’re not a Mom, you just can’t understand!

Fake Shutters on Houses – worst invention ever, or a great idea?

I’d be interested to know who actually invented them and why? Decoratively, I dig it. Functionally, do not understand it at all…

What is the most hilarious thing that has ever happened to you as a parent?

There are way too many to choose just one, but if I must… I took my daughter to work with me when she was a few months old, and a couple mistook her for a boy and I felt so awkward about it that I didn’t correct them and continued to carry on a 15-minute conversation about my “son”… total cringe-worthy moment!

Please share your favorite Honest Mom article to date – why is it your favorite?

Definitely 5 Thoughts You’ll Have After Giving Birth. It was my first post that I got published on Scary Mommy, which was my ultimate dream! I think it is one of the most relatable things that I’ve written so far!

How do you balance your blog and your home life without losing your mind?

Well, I’ve already lost my mind long before starting my blog… I just really try to keep a balance. As long as I write two posts a week and keep up with my Facebook page, I’m satisfied. Anything extra is a bonus. It really helps that my family is super supportive of everything that I do.

If you could tell a parent struggling to find the humor in the absurdity of day to day parenting life, what would it be?

You might not be laughing now, but I promise you will be. I can’t tell you how many things have upset me or driven me crazy as a Mom, but looking back it is hilarious. I really think I need a reality TV show sometimes… I could not make this sh*t up!

Thank you so much for sharing a behind the scenes look with us, Brittney!

  1. Hillary Hood says:

I laughed so hard at the Veggie chips comment. Great interview! So perfect!
I’m not a mom, but I feel the same way about my stomach after I eat a salad. I look down and it’s still there and I ask myself WTF?

    1. Yes, this is embarrassingly late, but I am also loving these candid interviews. I have some pretty fabulous interviewees 🙂

  2. Samantha of Mother Haggard says:

YESSS I’m so excited for this new series! Thank you for bringing The Honest Mom into my life—I’m always looking for funny mom blogs, especially ones about keeping it real, like hers (and yours!).

And I, too, spent the first weeks/months of my daughter’s life constantly listening to people refer to her as my son, which left me annoyed beyond reason. Eventually it was easier just to go with it. “Oh yes, well, my son’s just about the greatest son a mom could ask for!”

Can’t wait for the next spotlight.

    1. Yess…. got some great ones coming up! And hey, check me out, I’m finally catching up on comments!
